"The 5 Waves of Emo" is a book detailing the history of the emo music genre. It also highlights bands from each era with interactive foldouts. As one of my favorite genres of music, I wanted to make sure I was properly paying tribute to the bands that have defined the past five decades.
Creating this book involved numerous hand-done elements in order to pay homage to the DIY aspects of the emo community. I drew the cover by hand and sewed it on to fabric to emulate a patch, because there is a prevalent culture of collecting patches within the emo community. For the titles of each section, I hand carved and printed stamps. The extra elements throughout the book were created by rolling ink and collaging imagery collected from numerous sources. Every step of this book was a labor of love in the same way that those in the emo community create art and music with love!
