I often find myself joking with anyone who asks about what I do that I am a graphic designer that hates working on the computer. This made me think about why I have such an aversion to working digitally, and also why designers are confined to their computers rather than analog methods. Throughout my thesis, argue that designers should work with their hands more within the design process because it engages a person’s inner child, helps the designer be present while creating, and ultimately creates work that connects on a deeper, more human level. I also explored why tactile methods are becoming less common.
The design of this zine was created with the help of my mother and my younger sister. Together we painted our hands and stamped out handprints across paper. I then used those prints to create the design. I got my hands physically messy during this project, and it was extremely fun to do so!
