When prompted to create a project with a special personal meaning, I immediately knew I wanted to make something that showed my connection and devotion to my friends, family, and the people in my life that I am grateful for. I decided to hand letter the lyric "what a relief to be grateful" from the Slaughter Beach, Dog song Engine.

The canvas for this project was an old guitar that I rescued from the garbage. Music is an important presence in my life, and it has helped me connect with more people than I could name. Around the edges of the guitar are stickers of signatures that I collected from the people I am grateful for. I chose to use fluorescent paint because my parents' love of black light posters in the 90's inspired me.
